Mention the contributions of blacks in Decatur, Alabama and Peggy Allen Towns is all ears. Her passion is to preserve the voices and legacy of African Americans in her home town. She has spent countless hours researching and documenting the lives of these ordinary people, and has presented programs at schools, colleges, churches, local library and group discussions.

Peggy also offers genealogy beginner and intermediate classes on “How to Research the Family.” She has done extensive research on the roles of early African American Pioneers in Decatur, the Scottsboro Boys Trial, and United States Colored Troops in North Alabama during the Civil War. She researched material for a brochure that was printed by the Convention & Visitors Bureau.  It gives us a glimpse of early African American pioneers in Decatur, Alabama.
